Letter, 1851 April 7.

Letter written at New York, N.Y. to president, trustees, and directors of the American Dramatic Fund Association. "In returning you my sincere thanks for the kind invitation to join in the celebration of your anniversary, permit me to express the warm interest I feel in the objects of your institution and the extreme regret with which, on account of indispositions in my family, I find it out of my power to attend. ...Allow me, gentlemen, with my best wishes for your personal enjoyment of this festive occasion and the success of your noble institution to offer up a sentiment, the theatre; always respectable in proportion as it is respected."
